Located in the centre of the historic triangle of Bagamoyo, Pangani and Zanzibar, Saadani National Park covers a conventional area of 1100 square kilometres. This is the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania bordering the sea and provides an exceptional combination of both marine and mainland flora and fauna in a culturally charming setting.
About 30 large mammal species, numerous reptiles, birds, green turtles, and over 40 species of fish, humpback whales and dolphins can be spotted in this ecosystem.
The best time to visit Saadani National Park is during the dry season which runs between June to October. This is the best time for wildlife sightings as they are found gathering around the waterholes. The thin vegetation makes it easier to spot.
Though the dry season is the peak season in Tanzania, that doesn’t mean the wet season is not at all fit for a visit. It is the celebration time for bird enthusiasts as the park welcomes many migratory birds. But the road and walking trails may find hard to navigate.
Dry/High Season (June-October) | Wet/Low Season (November-March) |

After being gazetted as a national park, the wildlife of Saadani National Park is increasing in recent years. The park is home to the four members of Big5 except for the rhino which makes it a popular safari in Tanzania.

Also, bird watching is the most fascinating safari activity to do during November and April. It attracts thousands of birding enthusiasts to Tanzania Safari Tours.
Visitors are also interested to picnic, swimming and sighting different marine organisms by visiting Mafui Sandbank. River cruising is also an adventurous activity to get engaged with.
